By August, tomatoes and cucumbers are ripening faster than we can pick them. Pumpkins are sending out runners well into neighboring rows becoming entangled with chamomile and cilantro. Potatoes, basil, onions, and shallots, have been collected, and every trip to the garden seems to end with an armful of something. After months of planting, watering, weeding, worrying, and waiting, this is the part that feels a little like magic. For a few short weeks, the garden gives back more than we know what to do with.
